Mission Bay Classes |
USD Water Sports classes are run through the Mission Bay Aquatics Center, which is the world's largest instructional waterfront facility. It located at 1001 Santa Clara Place in Mission Beach, about one mile north of the Belmont Park Roller Coaster. You will need to provide your own transportation to the Aquatic Center. Check the Aquatic Center brochure located at the Campus Recreation office and the lobby of the University Center for exact dates, times, and fees for classes offered. It is recommended you sign up early to ensure your enrollment in class. To reserve your time call 858-488-1036 and tell them you are signed up for a credit class from USD. You will be required to pay your fee to Mission Bay Aquatic Center when you sign up. MBAC home page |
Sea Kayaking |
Learn to paddle a Sea or Whitewater Kayak, Surfski, or Waveski on the waters of Mission Bay. A great way to prepare for longer trips off campus. For class dates and times see MBAC Catalog |
Sailing |
Five different types of sailboats are used in the four main sailing classes offered by the Aquatic Center. The sailing program will give you the confidence to sail alone or the ability to host your friends to an afternoon on the water. For class dates and times see MBAC Catalog |
Surfing |
Enjoy California's most exciting sport. Intended to give a beginner a safe and structured introduction to surfing. Classes include lectures on the mechanics of beach and waves, surfboard handling and the techniques necessary to stand and ride a wave. Waterskiing |
Waterskiing at MBAC is both instructional and recreational. Dry land ski school is coupled with one on one interaction between the boat driver and skier to start a novice skiing on double skis as well as expert coaching to accomplished slalom skiers. Windsurfing |
Learn windsurfing in a safe and successful manner on Mission Bay. The course is offered as a basic introduction. The Aquatic Center has over 50 boards and four different types of sail sizes to give the variety of equipment needed to learn and improve. For class dates and times see MBAC Catalog |

Rowing at MBAC is a sport that gives you both the experience of being on the water and a form of exercise that strengthens the entire body. Learn the fundamentals of rowing techniques for sweep rowing in a 4 or 8 person boat or go solo as you learn sculling. |
