Recreation Classes

Butts and Guts Toning

Participants will tone and shape the lower half of the body through dynamic exercise that target very specific muscle groups. Some cardio sets are involved in this class but the main focus will be to strengthen and tighten the gutes and abs.

Boot Camp USD

This class combines circuit training with explosive strength training exercises that use mostly your own body weight. Class will target legs, core, glutes, abs, arms . . . EVERYTHING! Be prepared to sweat and work!

Cardio Kick Boxing (for Women)
Non-contact kick boxing techniques, tactics and routines are taught in this workout oriented class.
Cycling: Multi-Level 
This class introduces basic outdoor cycling skills and conditioning. Also includes basic mechanical repair, how the bike works, and road safety. Required for this class: helmet, bike (road or hybrid), and a desire to ride.
First Aid, CPR, AED, Oxygen    
Participants will learn about CPR, First Aid for choking, burns, poisoning, shock, severe bleeding, applying splints and more.  After successfully completing the course, students will be certified in first aid, CPR, AED, and Oxygen.
Fitness: Abs & Toning 
Strengthen your core abdominals and lower back, and work on toning all parts of your body.
Fitness: Pilates  
Increase strength, flexibility, muscular balance and relaxation. Class focuses on concentration, breathing, and muscular endurance for the abdominals, low back and legs. Various levels and styles offered each semester.
Fitness: Pilates: Level 2  
Class is designed for those who already have a strong background in Pilates work. Increase strength, flexibility, muscular balance and relaxation. Class focuses on concentration, breathing, and muscular endurance for the abdominals, low back and legs. Level 1 or equivalent skills required.

Fitness: Hip Hop  

Learn the popular dance moves to the hottest tracks! No experience required- just wear comfortable clothes and come to have fun!

Fitness: Spinning 
Indoor cycling class led by certified professionals to tone your lower body while emphasizing cardio training on an indoor bike.

Group Fitness Certification Prep Course

Ever think you have what it takes to lead group exercise? This class will take you through the necessary steps in order to become a certified fitness instructor. By the end of the class you will be completly prepared for the ACE certification course. After you are certified, you can get a job as a group exercise instructor at most gyms or fitness institutions.

Massage 
Massage provides relaxation from the stress and tension of everyday living while enhancing general health and well being. It can also help athletes to heal more quickly after tough workouts. Massage is not only theraputic but it feels good as well. Various massage techniques will be covered in this 8 week course.

Personal Training Certification Prep Course 

Learn the necessary skills required to become a certified personal trainer. This class will prep you for the actual personal training exam and review nutrition planning, how to attract clientele, and how to be an effective trainer to various demographics. Extra book fees are required.

Resistance Training for Fitness and Health 

Explore a variety of exercise modalities including calisthenics, resistance bands, circuit training, suspension training, kettlebells and traditional dumbbell, barbell, Olympic / power lifting techniques. Learn about proper form and effective strategies to develop a custom workout program that includes lifestyle and dietary habits. All experience levels welcome! This is a Co Ed class but programs will be tailored to specific individual needs.

Running for Fun and Fitness

Learn how to properly run on the road and trails. Runs will be around the beautiful USD campus and class will focus on proper stretches, training, sprint runs, long distance runs, race training, and pure fun fitness runs. Some cross-training will also be taught in the class. All levels welcome.

Stretch for Strength & Relaxation

This class is for dancer and non-dancer alike. The purpose of the course is to teach the proper technique for exercising and increase the flexibility as well as strength of the individual, with emphasis on abdominal, gluteal, and thigh tightening. There is minimal aerobic activity. Class is located in Shiley Theater behind Sacred Heart Hall. (SHH).

Wellness and Personal Fitness 

This class will focus on the holistic development of the individual person. Learn the fundamentals of personal nutrition, exercise, physiology, training, health planning, and much more. This class is instructed by a certified personal trainer dedicated to guide you individually in the correct personal development. Extra book fees may be required for this class (TBA).

Yoga Fusion 
Incorporates styles of power style Vinyasa yoga and Pilates for an intense all body workout. It works on core, body posture, cardio, toning, and  flexibility from a  multi-discipline approach.

Yoga-Gentle Flow 
Gentle Flow Yoga has more discourse on the nervous system and immune system, and is more restorative. It emphasizes stress management and relaxation.
Yoga-Power Flow 
This type of yoga features an athletic format. It requires focused alignment, emphasizing muscular strength and flexibility.
Yoga Sculpt
This type of yoga features an athletic format that uses body or light hand held weights to sculpt core muscle groups. It requires focused alignment, emphasizing muscular strength and flexibility and uses various types of yoga including Vinyasa, Hatha, and fusion.
