Sports and Recreation

Don't forget to play! USD offers many options to get together with fellow students to play sports and go on adventures. Sports and recreation helps forge long-lasting, supportive bonds as well as boosts emotional and physical well-being.

Intramural Sports

Add some friendly competition to your day and meet fellow Toreros with our intramural program. We have leagues in softball, basketball, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, soccer, football, tennis, inner-tube water polo, Quidditch and more.

Recreational Activities

Our recreational classes provide students with opportunities to learn new skills and activities, to increase physical strength and fitness, and to provide a balance in daily life. By introducing and encouraging these activities, we hope that you will develop a life-long interest in health and fitness. We offer over 60 classes per semester in fitness and wellness, recreation, dance, martial arts, aquatics and Outdoor Adventures. Classes can be taken as credit or non-credit and are open to all community members.

Fitness and Wellness Programs

Campus Recreation is here to help you reach your fitness and wellness goals, whatever they might be. We offer a variety of programs including GroupEx, personal training, fitness testing, workshops, classes, athletic training and more.

Sports Clubs and Recreation Clubs

Looking for a little more competition? Try a sports club! Sports clubs differ from other campus athletic programs by providing opportunities for certain sports that are not offered through intercollegiate athletics. However, sports clubs compete against other schools, unlike intramural sports. Sports clubs are generally competitive, practice two or three times per week and have coaches. All interested students are invited to tryout.

Recreation clubs are special-interest activity clubs that are open to the entire campus (students and employees). Some of our recreation clubs include running, beach volleyball, SCUBA diving, and more. These clubs are organized to present social interaction, skill development and occasionally less competitive activities. You can join a recreation club any time during the year and participate in any of their special events, meetings, social gatherings and competitions.

Informal Recreation and Fitness

Get your workout groove on in one of our three facilities. The McNamara Fitness Center and the Mission Fitness Center house state-of-the art fitness equipment for cardiovascular training, strength training, and circuit training. The Sports Center houses our Olympic-sized pool (lap and lounge areas), tennis courts, and indoor basketball/volleyball courts. All three facilities have locker rooms and showers available. Simply swipe your Alcala card to gain admittance and enjoy our facilities.

Outdoor Adventures (OA)

From urban adventures around beautiful San Diego to extended trips around the southwest US, Outdoor Adventures offers a variety of trips to get you outdoors and off campus. In addition to trips, OA operates a resource center and rental shop that provides outdoor recreation equipment and trip planning resources for individuals and groups that choose to venture on their own excursions.
