Clinical Professor of Operations Management

Joan Passovoy, clinical professor of operations management, is a 34-year veteran of the operations, supply chain management and manufacturing/industrial engineering fields. She joined the University of San Diego School of Business in 2009.  

Prior to joining USD, she was the senior operations manager/director of manufacturing for high-speed telecommunications circuitry with a start-up, JNI, that later underwent a successful IPO and was acquired by AppliedMicro Circuits Corporation (AMCC). Earlier in her career, she was an engineering services manager with Diatek/Welch Allyn; held a variety of roles, including engineering services supervisor, production engineering supervisor and industrial engineering supervisor, with Topaz Electronics and senior manufacturing engineer at General Atomics, where she made the first computer consoles for self-serve gas stations. She began her career at General Dynamics, where she worked as a manufacturing development engineer on the Space Shuttle, DC-10, Cruise Missile and Atlas/Centaur Rocket programs.

A Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Passovoy has completed certificate programs at California Institute of Technology in project management and engineering management. She sits on the advisory board for Industrial Technology at Cal Poly.
