Application

Where can I get an application to apply to the program?

When is the application due?

The admission deadline for international students is June 15th, and for domestic students it is July 15th.

Can I use the GRE or LSAT for admission?

You may use the GRE, but the LSAT is not aceptable.  The GMAT is preferred.

When should I start to pursue the GMAT?

Take the GMAT as soon as you are prepared. The GMAT Web site is www.mba.com/mba/TaketheGMAT.

If I took the GMAT/TOEFL in the past, how long will those scores be considered valid?

GMAT scores are valid for five (5) years. TOEFL/IELTS scores are valid for two (2) years.

What is the minimum GMAT score required for admissions?

550.

What is the minimum TOEFL/IELTS score required for admission?

The minimum score required for the TOEFL is 92. The minimum score required for the IELTS is 7.

What is the minimum GPA required for admission?

The minimum GPA required is 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.

Can I request an interview with a program representative?

How will I know if my application has been received?

We will notify you when we have received your application, and we will also inform you if you are missing any application materials.

Admissions

What are the requirements for admission?

Here are the admission requirements into the MSRE program.

Do you have spring admission?

No. The program starts once a year in late August.

What are the most important criteria for admission?

Your academic and professional background will be comprehensively reviewed and considered. Strengths in some areas may offset weaknesses in others.

Can I take MSRE courses without being admitted to the MSRE program?

Generally speaking, no

Can I apply to other USD graduate programs and the MSRE in the same year, or move from one program to another?

Yes, based on your qualifications and the application process of the other programs.

Can I waive a course in the program?

Course waivers will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Are transfer credits accepted?

Transfer credits will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

What is your deferral policy?

You should submit your application for the year you plan to enter the MSRE program. Postponements and deferrals will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Programs and Procedures

What is a cohort-based program?

A cohort-based program has students begin and end the program together. Students are in the same classes throughout the program. This type of program builds strong networks and a feeling of camaraderie between students that often continues into the future.

How long is the program?

The full-time program is 10 months long and the part-time program is 22 months long.

How many students are admitted each year and what is the average size of the classes?

Each cohort has approximately 25 students.

How many classes will be offered each semester?

Six to seven classes are required each term for full-time students while three classes are required each term for part-time students. A class may also be offered during the January intersession.

What time do classes start?

Classes generally start at 4:00 p.m. during the week. Weekend class times vary depending on the course.

Are there study abroad opportunities?

Yes, you will have an opportunity to study abroad during the January intersession. For more information visit the Ahlers Center for International Business

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Does USD offer scholarships/ fellowships? How do I apply for them?

What are the qualifications to receive Financial Aid?

Experience and Background

I am still an undergraduate student. Does the program require work experience?

You are expected to have a minimum of two years of relevant work experience. Determination on work experience relevance will be made on a case-by-case basis

Do I need an undergraduate degree to pursue an MSRE?

Yes.

Does my undergraduate degree need to be in business?

No. We strongly recommend that you have taken a basic business financial course, though, and are proficient in Microsoft Office Excel

Can my considerable work experience substitute for the GMAT?

No.

Will I be able to work during the program?

Full-time students are encouraged to find an internship and/or work part-time during the semester. Part-time students generally have full-time jobs while in the program.

Does my work experience need to be in business?

No. Determination on work experience relevance will be made on a case-by-case basis.

What job opportunities are available after graduation?
