Master of Science in Taxation (MTAX)
The School of Business Administration is pleased to announce its launch of a Master of Science in Taxation (MTAX)
program this fall.
Mission
The mission of the USD accountancy program is to develop accountants – through the use of personalized, innovative teaching methods developed by faculty who are active in the production and dissemination of knowledge – who have the skills to compete in a diverse and fast-changing global professional environment.
The MTAX degree program is a 30-unit program that focuses on interactively developing the skills needed by accountants who want to emphasize tax during their careers. This program is a specialized tax degree designed to provide accountants the skills needed in mid-to-upper-level taxation related positions. Further, the program provides students with leadership, communication, interpersonal, and ethical skills for supervisory-level positions. Students applying for this program should have completed an undergraduate degree in accountancy or its equivalent, including individual taxation and corporate taxation courses. Individuals without this background may still apply for the program, but will need to complete the extended program requirements described on our website.
Since all courses are offered two nights a week over five-week terms, this program will be particularly convenient for employed students desiring to complete a taxation masters program on a part-time basis. All courses for this program are listed as part of USD’s MACC program and are designed to build skills interactively in class.
Specifically, the MTAX degree will give you strong:
- Technical accounting skills;
- Business writing skills;
- Verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
- Skills needed to critically analyze information;
- Skills needed to utilize technology within the accountancy profession; and,
- Foundation for evaluating ethical questions.
