The Ahlers Center for International Business presents Mannsoo Shin, PhD, director for the Center for Asian Business at Korea University Business School and Ahlers Center International Visiting Faculty. Dr. Shin will speak on "The Development Strategy of Dynamic Capabilities: The Case of Samsung Electronics Company."

Biography:

Mannsoo Shin, PhD, is currently a professor of international business and serving as director for Center for Asian Business at Korea University Business School. He received his BBA from Korea University (1981), MBA from University of Hawaii (1983) and PhD from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1989). He was associate dean at Korea University Business School during 2002 and 2005. He served as editor-in-chief for Korean Journal of International Trade and Industry. He has been also a consultant to many Korean firms including Hyundai Motors, Samsung SDI, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, POSCO, KT & G, Nongshim, and Korean Ministry of Labor. He has served on various committees for Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency, Korean Ministry of Public Administration and Security, Korea Water Resources Corporation, and Korea Customs Service, and is also a member of the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board.

At the Korea University Business School he has been the recipient of the SK Distinguished Research Award Professor of the Year Award. He teaches several international business courses including International Business, International Business Environment and Strategy, Comparative Management, Global Strategy, Japanese Business, Dynamics of Asian Business, and Regional Study focusing Southeast Asia.

He as written about sixty English and Korean publications, such as refereed journal papers, book chapters, and conference proceedings. His publications appear in many journals including Management International Review, International Business Journal, Korean Management Review, International Regional Studies, The Southeast Asian Review, Korean Journal for Human Resource Development, and Regional Development Dialogue. He is also the author of many books in Korean including "International Business" (2008), "International Business Strategy of Korean Firms" (2000), "Korean Business and Emerging Markets" (2000), "Strategic Alliance between Korean and Japanese Firms" (1998) and "Foreign Direct Investment in China by Japanese Firms." (1995).
