Men and women negotiate and communicate differently. These differences oftentimes work against women, preventing them from reaching the upper ranks of the workforce, being seen as leaders, and reaching their full earning potential. This workshop will combine experiential exercises and seminar-style presentation to teach:

  • The basics of negotiations
  • Various gender-based features of negotiations that often work to the disadvantage women
  • Strategies women can adopt to level the playing field and create strategic advantages for themselves

 Key learnings include:

  • How to prepare properly for negotiations
  • Understanding psychological factors in play with respect to various methods of persuasion
  • Understanding the difference between interests and positions in order to create better deals for all parties
  • Understanding the effects of reputation and relationship on negotiations
  • Seminar: research on gender differences in negotiations
  • Simulation: salary negotiation for women
  • Suggested books, journals, and websites for your future negotiations education
