The Ahlers Center for International Business welcomes distinguished executive James M. Zimmerman, Chairman Emeritus of the American Chamber of Commerce China, who will give a talk on “Consuming China: Commercial and Political Implications of Sustaining Economic Growth."

Please click here to RSVP. Refreshments will be served.

Join James Zimmerman for a discussion concerning the implications and challenges of China's policies supporting sustained economic growth and domestic consumption, including state investments in infrastructure and healthcare, policies to support indigenous innovation and home-growth intellectual property, policies to support a shift in manufacturing sectors from coastal to inland regions, and policies to promote the growth of state-owned-enterprises and public corporate ownership domestically and internationally. Zimmerman will also explore China's drive to source and exploit natural resources regionally and worldwide to continue to drive its growth, and the challenges of rising labor costs, degradation of the environment, and the pressures of stability and social welfare.

Zimmerman will further discuss the implications for multinationals seeking to capture the opportunities in China, and especially as MNEs find themselves increasingly competing on the global stage against state-supported enterprises.

Zimmerman is Chairman Emeritus of the American Chamber of Commerce China and author of the book, the China Law Deskbook (publication of the American Bar Association and in its third edition). He is a lawyer living and working in China since 1998, and is a 1987 graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law. He maintains a home in San Diego.
