| Title | Graduate Students Finish Global Leadership Program |
|---|---|
| Message | A new class of global business leaders graduated from the University of San Diego’s School of Business Administration on Friday, November 30, 2007. Eighteen graduates received a Master of Science in Global Leadership and a certificate in Project Management during a ceremony at Manchester Executive Conference Center. Internationally recognized political analyst and author John Stoessinger, Ph.D. addressed the graduating class and entertained guests with his personal account of escaping from Nazi-occupied Austria on the eve of the Second World War. Stoessinger also served on President John F. Kennedy’s advisory staff in the Oval Office during the Cuban Missile Crisis. “This is an outstanding class of graduates,” said program director Robert Schoultz. “Many of them have already accomplished great things and with a greater understanding of the global business environment as well as the new business skills they have learned in this program, I know they will go on to serve our nation and the business community with honor and distinction.” The 16-month Master of Science in Global Leadership program focuses on leadership and ethics, the global political environment and best business practices. “We also place a high priority on cultural understanding and the role it plays in successful leadership across international and cultural boundaries,” Schoultz said. The program combines traditional classroom instruction with the latest in online learning techniques to provide a cutting-edge global business leadership education. Students from outside the San Diego area who are unable to attend the monthly class sessions may complete all courses between the first and last weeks via distance and online learning means. The final week of classes culminated with the students proposing a business plan to a Qualcomm executive with a strategy for the global company to expand into a new territory. Many of the students serve on active duty in the Navy and Marine Corps and others work for top corporations like The Boeing Company and Booz Allen Hamilton. “The idea of completing a graduate degree from a prestigious university in only 16 months was what initially drew me to the program. The extensive online content within the program helped me to balance my life as an Air Force Officer, a husband, and a graduate student,” said graduate Carl Alstatt. “I found the program particularly applicable in my daily life as an officer and enjoyed the practical aspect within each of the courses.” Students graduating include Carl Alstatt (USAF), Adrian Barefield (ATGPAC), John Benda (ATGPAC), Louis Bergeron (Booz Allen Hamilton), Jeff Bertram (Boeing), Chad Bibler (ATGPAC), Frank Davis (NASWI), Derek Gates (H&HS Miramar), Chad Hall (MCRD), Michael Haymon (NASWI), David Hower (ATGPAC), Aaron Klein (AMN Healthcare), Michael Lorenzo (MCRD), John Moore (CNO OPNAV), Sean Petersen (MCRD), Melissa Richardson (COMTHIRDFLT), Nathan Rockholm (CNO OPNAV), Seth Wolcott (HMLA/T-303). Since 1999 more than 350 students have graduated from the MSGL program. Many of the private sector students receive generous scholarship from their employers, while the U.S. Navy has recognized this program within its Graduate Education Voucher program, providing scholarships for a number of Navy Officers to participate each year.
