Before entering the Ph.D. program, Jillian Phillips completed undergraduate and master’s degrees in accounting at the University of Central Florida, worked in public accounting as an auditor with Deloitte & Touche, LLP, and became a licensed CPA in Florida. After joining the University of Central Florida as a Ph.D. student in 2005, she taught undergraduate courses in Auditing, Principles of Financial Accounting, and Intermediate Financial Accounting.
Phillips has presented her research at the American Accounting Association Annual meetings in 2007 and 2008, and the American Accounting Association ABO Research Conference in 2008. She is currently working with co-authors on a large research project funded by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Investor Education Foundation (formerly known as NASD) and the Enhanced Business Reporting Consortium (EBRC) Reporting Simplification Task Force (RSTF). Her research interests are focused on the areas of judgment and decision-making research in auditing and financial reporting, with current specific interests in the overall use and improvement of financial reports and disclosures. Her dissertation examines the legal liability implications of the required disclosures of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.
As a Ph.D. student, Phillips served as the College of Business representative for the University of Central Florida Graduate Student Association, and held the positions of treasurer and vice president of the Ph.D. Student Association. In 2008, she was selected to represent the University of Central Florida at the AAA/Deloitte/Michael Cook Doctoral Consortium. She has also served as an ad-hoc reviewer for the International Journal of Accounting Information Systems, Advances in Accounting Behavioral Research, and the 2008 American Accounting Association Annual Meeting.
