Miriam Rothman, professor of Management and former co-director of the Internship Program in the School of Business Administration, was awarded a 2004-2005 University Professorship in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the University of San Diego where she teaches courses in Human Resource Management, Organizational Behavior, and Executive Career Development at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Rothman’s scholarship can best be described as applied research in order to increase awareness of individual differences, cultural differences, and strategic initiatives that improve performance through respectful treatment of employees. Her publications have been both broad and varied including: empirical research, qualitative research, book chapters, cases, experiential activities, and media production. She is also senior editor of Industrial Relations Around the World, an international book of readings. In addition to her teaching and research, Rothman works with individuals as well as large and small organizations in the public and private sectors as a Human Resource Management Consultant. She conducts workshops and trainings around the world on a variety of management topics, including leadership development and is a frequent contributor to television and newspaper stories reflecting contemporary organizational issues. Rothman also provides expert witness consulting and testimony in wrongful termination and discrimination cases. She has been adjunct faculty with the Center for Creative Leadership since 1988 where she is a certified trainer, feedback consultant, and executive coach for several of their programs. Within the community, she serves as chair of the Personnel Commission for the County Office of Education and serves on the Board of Directors for Community Research Foundation. She has volunteered as an arbitrator with the County Bar Association and mediator for the National Center on Conflict Resolution. . Prior to pursuing her doctorate, she worked in the public and private sectors in Human Resources and spent a year teaching at the University of Otago in New Zealand.
