Share/Save/Bookmark

International students who possess an L-1 (business) visa or a J-1 Short Term Scholar Visa may be admitted to the GC-SCM or the MS-SCM. This limitation is due to rules and regulations of the US Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS) regarding online and distance education.

How do I get started?

Complete standard GC-SCM or MS-SCM application form. You must take the TOEFL or IETLS exam. See further information below.

Upon acceptance to the program, students must:

  1. Submit a deposit payment for Enrollment Commitment. SCMI will send you this form with your acceptance letter.
  2. Submit the USD Certification of Finances form with supporting documents
Steps 1 & 2 must completed before going further.
  3. Complete appropriate Visa form (L-1 or J-1) and send to the Supply Chain Management Institute (SCMI) for initial review and approval.
  4. The approved visa forms will then be routed to the Office of International Services for verification.
  5. Upon arrival at the University of San Diego, students must check in with the Office of International Services. See further information below.
  6. Students must then visit the Campus Cards office to obtain their USD Student ID card.
  7. Upon your re-entry to the USA for your second on-campus visit, you will need to again check in with the International Services office at the University of San Diego.SCMI will coordinate all aspects of this visit for students.

Academic Records

Applicants must have their transcripts evaluated by an outside agency such as the International Education Research Foundation, Inc. (IERF) or World Education Services, Inc. (WES). A Detailed Report for Academic Credentials from IERF or Course-by-Course Report from WES must be submitted with your application. Be advised that the evaluation will take at least 20 days, sometimes much longer. An application for this service may be obtained by the Office of Graduate Admissions at the University of San Diego. You can also contact the agencies at the following information:

IERF, P.O. Box 3665, Culver City, CA 90231, U.S.A. http://www.ierf.org

WES, P.O. Box 5087, Bowling Green Station, New York, NY 10274, U.S.A. http://www.wes.org

Applicants must submit either original documents or certified photocopies of original documents of your post-secondary educational records. Foreign language transcripts must be accompanied by certified English translations by an approved agency. The Admissions Office will examine all records submitted to determine if they are adequate and will inform applicants if additional records are required.

English Language Requirements

All applicants must be proficient in the English language. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is mandatory of all applicants except those who are from English speaking countries. The minimum acceptable score is 580 (237 on the computer-based test and 92 on the Internet-based test). In most cases, TOEFL scores should not be more than one year old unless the applicant has completed U.S. college/university level English courses (not ESL courses) with reasonable grades. This exam is administered several times a year at centers throughout the world.

Your success or failure at the University will depend on your command of English more than any other single factor. Admission to the University will not be granted unless minimum English language requirements are met. Registration forms for the TOEFL can be obtained at most U.S. Embassies and Consulates or by writing to:

International Students who receive a bachelor's degree from a USD-approved post-secondary institution where English is the principal language of instruction may have the TOEFL waived. Contact the Office of Graduate Admissions at (619) 260-4524.
