Mark J. Riedy is the executive director of the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate and the Ernest W. Hahn Professor of Real Estate Finance at the University of San Diego. As the founder of the Burnham-Moores Center and the first person to hold the Hahn Chair, he brings a wealth of practical experience to the University. He is responsible for developing an extensive range of courses, seminars and lecture series emphasizing the importance of real estate and real estate finance to the regional and national economies.

He currently serves as chairman of the board of Neighborhood Bancorp, the holding company for Neighborhood National Bank (San Diego) and as a board member of the San Diego chapter of NAIOP. Previously, he served on four public company boards: BioMed Realty Trust (NYSE), Pan Pacific Retail Properties (NYSE), Fannie Mae (NYSE), and American Mortgage Network (NASDAQ). He also has served on the boards of four private for-profit companies: Perpetual Savings (Alexandria, Va.), Accubanc Mortgage (Dallas), HomeStreet Bank (Seattle), and Noble Broadcast Group (San Diego), and one not-for profit organization, St. Vincent de Paul Village.

Prior to joining the University of San Diego, Riedy served as president and CEO of the National Council of Community Bankers from July 1988 to June 1992, in Washington, D.C. The National Council represented savings and commercial banks and savings and loan associations before Congress and federal regulatory agencies and provided a broad range of educational and communications services to community banks.

From July 1987 to July 1988, Riedy was president and COO of the J.E. Robert Companies, one of the nation’s largest real estate workout firms. From January 1985 to July 1986, Riedy was president and COO and a director of the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae).

Riedy has held a variety of positions within the real estate finance industry: executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America; vice president and chief economist of the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco; and vice president and director of research for PMI, a private mortgage insurance company. He was also a consultant, served as senior staff economist for the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, and taught at the University of Colorado.
