San Diego Union-Tribune-- Eco-friendly City Hall project, while thin on details, may serve as model. As the $432 million project makes its way to the City Council for consideration, its green credentials have been used as a major selling point.
Drawings show wind turbines spinning atop the 23-story building with turfed green roofs. When someone described the city as deciding whether to overhaul its old car or buy a new one, Council President Ben Hueso said, “Yes, but we want to buy a hybrid.” ... The title of greenest building on the West Coast probably goes to the University of British Columbia's Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability, now under construction, said University of San Diego real estate professor Norm Miller. The building will get most of its electricity and lighting from the sun and wind. “But, in terms of San Diego, you can make all the bold claims you want, and you'd be correct,” Miller said.
