Off-Campus Housing
The benefits of living off-campus are numerous, but one of the most important reasons to do so is that you are able to immerse yourself in the distinctive culture of San Diego. "Living la vida local" helps you to meet San Diegans, improve your spoken English, and explore all that this coastal wonderland has to offer.
Living With Roommates
Living with locals definitely has it's perks, namedly the opportunity to be exposed to everyday San Diego life. This option is the most cost-efficient, but be advised that there are several downsides to finding a room for rent. First, there are not many rooms that come furnished, and purchasing bedroom furniture for a short-term may not be the most practical choice. Second, with most students studying for only one semester, that means that they are looking for a room for 3-4 months, and most renters are looking for someone who will stay for the long-term. However, do not be discouraged as there are many options available - you just need to know where to look. The best sites to find a roommate are:
Craig's List
Craig's List is an online forum where anyone can post a free ad for various different reasons. San Diegans use this site most often to find housing as it is very simple to search by area, price, or size, and most ads have pictures of the room. Several key words you can search for are: USD, Linda Vista, Fashion Valley, Point Loma, Mission Hills, Old Town.

There are similar ads on this website and Craig's List, but it helps to look around at a few different sites.

Students who wish to live alone have several options for off-campus housing. There are short-term furnished apartment-style rooms that students can stay in when they first arrive so that they can search for a regular apartment:
