What better way to use your business negotiations training than by requesting compensation for your services? Many companies might be under the assumption that internships are unpaid, but this is not always the case. Be confident in what you have to offer and, if presented in such a manner, a prospective company should be able to see the value in compensating you fairly. Don't hesitate to bargain with other benefits, like meals, lodging, transportation, airfare, etc., if you feel the company may not be in the position to pay you a salary.

SBA Career Services also offers scholarships for completing summer internships abroad. Please inquire about the details of this funding to Christy Bergheim if you are an undergraduate, and Terra Saltzman-Baker if you are a graduate student.

2010-2011 Summer Internship Program

In partnership with the World Trade Center San Diego, and funded by a two-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the Ahlers Center provided scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students to travel to China, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, the Dominican Republic and Panama to assist USA companies in expanding their business operations in those regions. Interns worked on projects specifically for U.S. companies while utilizing the support and resources of the WTCs in the various cities abroad. When the students returned, they presented their findings to the San Diego companies in an effort to help them to expand their businesses internationally.
