Tourism and peace are inextricably linked. Nearly 1 billion tourists arrive at international destinations around the world annually spending close to 1 trillion USD. On one hand, peace is a central condition for the sustainability of tourism. On the other hand, responsible tourism can be a powerful tool for economic development, social inclusion and environmental conservation. Tourism can play a role in creating new job opportunities and supporting new businesses, promoting the development of infrastructure, and bolstering a sense of pride.

The 5th Annual Summit on Peace and Prosperity through Trade and Commerce explores how large and small enterprises are contributing to the creation of positive social change and environmental preservation through responsible tourism. This half-day conference shines the spotlight on innovative business models promoting socially responsible tourism, addressing factors of both success and opportunity.

  • How are local communities able to harness a piece of the US$1 trillion tourism industry?
  • How is environmental conservation promoted through responsible tourism?
  • How are creative post-conflict cases of tourism helping countries heal?
