International Corporate Governance Practices Seminar
Description
During this seminar, you will explore the intersection of two of the most pressing business issues of the last decade: corporate governance and international business. Corporate scandals in the US (such as Enron and Worldcom) and abroad (such as Satyam Computers and Olympus Corporation) have drawn attention to the importance of strong governance practices, including an effective board of directors, rigorous internal controls, appropriate compensation practices, etc. However, one-size does not fit all, and various factors such as culture, politics, history and legal framework guide the governance practices in companies around the world. Seminar participants will compare and contrast the various governance models in place around the world, discuss and debate specific practices, and explore the link between governance and firm performance.
Seminar Objectives:
- Understand the key features of a corporate governance structure and why governance is important to firm performance
- Analyze cases of governance failures at US and international companies
- Discuss the various models of corporate governance in place around the world and the major countries in which each is practiced
- Debate the merits of various governance models
