The Summer Institute on Innovation and Entrepreneurship is a week-long program on global competitiveness, emphasizing innovation and entrepreneurship. Hosted by the Ahlers Center for International Business, graduate students around the world will participate in an international learning opportunity that incorporates renowned scholars in their fields. 2018 Summer Institute: FAQ

Who should apply

The Summer Institute on Innovation and Entrepreneurship is designed for graduate students currently enrolled in an institution of higher education. We will ask for verification of enrollment (i.e., contact information of your graduate advisor, transcript) on the interest form.

Institutions that send five (5) or more students qualify for a discount. Please send an email to ahlersevents@sandiego.edu for more details.

All participants will receive a certificate of completion for this educational program that is being hosted by the University of San Diego (USD). Participants will not be enrolled as students at USD nor will any academic credit from USD be granted for participating in the Summer Institute. USD does not issue student visas for this program.

Important Dates

Interest Form: The first step is to complete the online interest form. The deadline to submit the online interest form is July 16, 2018. You must complete the interest form to receive the registration link by email.

Acceptance Notification: We have a rolling acceptance policy and you will be notified of the acceptance decision up until the July 16 deadline. In the acceptance email, you will also receive additional program and logistical information, along with the link to the online registration and payment form.

Registration and Payment Due Date: Should you be accepted into the program, full program payment of US$500 will be due by July 25, 2018.

Last Date to Cancel for 50% Refund: August 3, 2018

Should you need to cancel, a 50 percent refund will be available if cancellation is received in writing by August 3, 2018. Cancellations made past this date will not qualify for a refund.

Institute Format

This institute is a one-week program held on the University of San Diego campus from August 20-24, 2018. The tentative schedule is from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm with a lunch break each day. Activities will include social events, lectures from USD faculty, as well as a company visit.  Parking permit is available for purchase at $8/day.

We will provide all instructional materials in a flash drive. Pre-reading material may be shared through a Dropbox link prior to the program start date. You will need a laptop or tablet with a USB drive to access the program materials on the flash drive. Internet will be available at USD.

Successful participants will receive a certificate of completion on the last day. USD does not provide academic credit for the educational programs of the Institute.

Program Fee

The cost for the Institute is US$500, which includes:

  • Seminar instruction and program materials
  • Social activities such as a welcome reception
  • Company visit
  • Transportation to/from company visit
  • Closing dinner
  • Light breakfast and lunch
  • Certificate of completion

The fee does NOT cover:

  • Airfare
  • Housing
  • Transportation to/from USD campus
  • Parking on USD campus
  • Meals other than indicated
  • Additional items not indicated above
