Dr. Kathleen A. Kramer is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and the Director of Engineering Programs at the University of San Diego. Author or co-author of over 90 publications, her teaching and research interests are in the areas of multisensor data fusion, intelligent systems, and neural and fuzzy systems. She received her MS and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology, and her BS in Electrical Engineering (with a second major in Physics) magna cum laude from Loyola Marymount University. She has worked as a Member of Technical Staff doing research at several companies including ViaSat, Hewlett Packard, and Bell Communications Research.
She has recent published journal articles in IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, the International Journal of Intelligent Systems, and the International Journal of Modelling, Identification, and Control. In 2011, work she has authored or co-authored will be presented at the 2011 IEEE Multi-Conference on Systems and Control (Denver, CO), the 2011 IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems (Taipei, Taiwan), the 2011 National Security Innovation Competition (Colorado Springs, CO), the 21st International Conference on Systems Engineering (Las Vegas, NV), and the 2011 Frontiers in Education Conference (Rapid City, South Dakota).
A senior member of IEEE, she is a Past Chair of the IEEE San Diego Section and serves as a Program Evaluator for the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. She is currently chair of the IEEE Aerospace Electronic Systems Society San Diego Chapter and serves on the Electrical and Computer Engineering Advisory Board for Worcester Polytechnic Institute. She has taken on a variety of leadership activities for both IEEE and SWE and supports San Diego outreach activities such as Expand Your Horizons and FIRST LEGO League. She is currently chief advisor to the pre-Tau Beta Pi Society Chapter at USD.
