Globalization has made the need for cultural awareness and understanding more important than ever. However, in order to understand how to interact in a global context it is necessary to first understand your own ethical viewpoint. This seminar will first address your ethical viewpoint and its impact on behavior in organizations. With this foundation, we will then move on to explore the cultural differences managers encounter when operating abroad and how best to address this diversity. We will utilize case studies and discussions to help dissect and better understand these challenging ethical and global issues.
Tara L. Ceranic, PhD, is an assistant professor of Business Ethics in the School of Business Administration at the University of San Diego. She received her doctorate from the University of Washington in Seattle where she studied business ethics, strategic management and philosophy. Her research focuses on ethical decision-making and how it applies to emotions and gender in the workplace. She also holds an MBA from the University of Washington, a Master’s of International Studies from the University of Limerick, Ireland and an undergraduate degree in Political Science and Latin American Studies from the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Ceranic serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Organizational Moral Psychology and is a reviewer for the Journal of Business Ethics, Business and Society, Business Ethics Quarterly, the Society of Business Ethics, the International Association for Business and Society and the Academy of Management. She also serves as the Chair of the Curriculum Committee for the Academy of Management’s Social Issues in Management division.
