Portal

Overview

USD’s new Portal, My.Sandiego, will provide students, staff, faculty, and others associated with the university with fast, one-stop, personalized access to campus-wide information. The Portal will use a consistent web-based user interface to present information from a variety of data sources. Content will be personalized and customizable depending on an individual’s interests and roles.

When fully implemented, all users—faculty, staff, students, parents and alumni—will be able to access all of their permitted information with a “single sign-on” through our secure web-based portal. With one username and password, for example, faculty and staff will be able to access a customized portal homepage, retrieve email, access payroll and benefits information, see upcoming events, communicate with custom groups, maintain calendars, see important announcements, manage personal information and much more.

Using a “Think Big, Start Small” philosophy, MySandiego will be built iteratively. Phase I will focus on basic content that is currently available on unet.sandiego.edu, web registration, email and calendar access, and links to services, such as WebCT. Subsequent phases will widen the implementation by expanding the constituency to prospective students, parents and alumni and adding new services as the student system implementation progresses.

The initial implementation of My.Sandiego will include:

  • Access to the new Mirapoint webmail and calendar system
  • Access to the library system
  • All systems accessed via the current Unet portal.
  • Links to WebReg, DARS, WebCT, and Resource 25
  • Targeted announcements

Our deployment of the portal will provide centralized management of primary functions with a widely distributed deployment model of individual content. The design goal is for the viewer to reach information and services in 3 clicks or less, via single sign-on, and to customize the portal layout.

Our goal with My.Sandiego is to create an online community where users can efficiently find information and collaborate. We want it to be the best web resource possible for our campus community. As such, it will constantly evolve, feedback from students, faculty and staff and student system implementation milestones guiding this evolution.
