When and where are the applications due?
The application deadline is Tuesday, March 13, 2012 by 5 p.m. and must be turned in to SLP 308 as a hard copy.
What if I can't turn in my proposal by the deadline?
No proposals will be accepted after the deadline.
When will I know if I have received funding?
The decision deadline will be during the second week of April. Decisions on students' research proposals may be sent before the deadline. Once a student has received his or her decision, further agreement paperwork will need to be filled out.
How much money is available this semester?
Associated Students has $15,000 budgeted for the spring semester. All of the money will go towards students' research projects.
How much should I ask for?
Typically, we ask students to request the amount of money it would cost to perform the research project. In the past, students have received anywhere between $200-$1500. The degree of funding will be determined upon the nature of the project (expensive/rare materials vs. common office materials), number of members in the research group, among other criteria.
What is the process for determining how much funding I receive?
There will be a group of professors who will act as a merit committee. They will provide feedback on how meritorious a student's research project is and forward the information to the AS Academic Research Grant Selection Board. This board is comprised of undergraduate USD students. The Director of Academics will then sit down with the Honor Council and go through the proposals as well as the feedback from the professors, and from there the amount of funding will be determined.
What if I still have a question that wasn't listed here?
