Chief of Staff

Matt Smith

Hey Toreros!

I am Matthew Smith and I’m very excited to be serving you all as the Associated Students Chief of Staff for the 2016-2017 school year. I am beyond grateful that I have had the opportunity to come to this school and have greatly enjoyed my past three years as a Torero. As I am beginning my last year here at USD I cannot help but look back on all the wonderful experiences and memories I have had at this school, and I can’t wait to see what it has in store for me during my senior year. It is because of all of the amazing memories that I wanted to become an active member of student leadership, so that I could help bring to fruition the wants of the student body, ultimately making USD a better place and allowing other students to create such impactful and long lasting experiences as I have experienced. I worked as an Associated Students commuter senator last year helping create and work on initiatives to better the experience of USD’s large amount of commuter students. However, now I will be working with the executive board to progress USD as a whole in the right direction to becoming an even better and more connected university. Although the goals of all of Associated Students range across all aspects of student life and the university, my personal goal is to continue the goal of the previous Chief of Staff, which is to help foster a more inclusive environment on campus where all students, no matter what groups they belong to, are able to work together for the betterment and progression of our school.

Besides Associated Students, I am also involved in a couple of other groups on campus. Similar to President Hodges I am the captain of the USD men’s cross country team, and I am an avid member of the student athlete advisory committee. I am a Business Economics major with a minor in marketing, so you can usually find me in Olin Hall or running through the canyon to Mission Bay. If you ever see me walking around on campus or you find yourself on the 3rd floor of the SLP feel free to come and introduce yourself and we can talk about anything, whether it be any ideas for the school that you would like to see happen or simply just what pasta you like to order from Mickey. I can’t wait to begin my senior year with all of you and make it the best year yet!
