The USD Office of Financial Aid (OFA) utilizes a variety of programs to assist undergraduate students and their parents with their educational costs including scholarships, grants, part-time employment and loans. During the 2006/07 academic year, 65% of the undergraduate students attending USD received some form of financial assistance totaling approximately $86.71 million from federal, state, institutional and private donor sources. While most financial aid is based on financial need, some scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, leadership and campus or community activities.
To be considered for need-based aid and the federal loan programs, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The application information becomes available in the December preceding the academic year for which assistance is needed. Separate applications are required for both the Intersession and Summer sessions.
Applications, specific deadlines and additional information are available on the OFA website, www.sandiego.edu/financial_aid. Financial aid programs are also described in the USD Office of Admissions brochure and the Undergraduate Bulletin.
Starting August 4, 2008, questions regarding financial aid should be directed to the USD One Stop Student Center at (619) 260-2700.
