The Recreation Department sponsors a variety of different programs for the students, faculty and staff of the University. Included are recreation classes, informal recreation, wellness/fitness programs, recreational special events, leisure activities, intramural sports and sports clubs.
Informal recreation is for those who desire to recreate on their own without formal structure. This program includes open facility times, locker room use and equipment checkout. Recreational facilities include the Sports Center's gym, Jenny Craig Fitness Center, Mission Café and Fitness Center swimming pool, weight room, 4 tennis courts and various athletic fields. To use the facilities or to check out equipment, students must present a valid USD I.D.
The wellness/fitness program is dedicated to keeping people active and healthy. Classes are offered in aerobics, weight training, swim conditioning and physical conditioning. Students may also purchase a drop-In-fitness card which allows students to drop Into a number of fitness classes. In addition, the Mission Café and Fitness Center serves as a fitness workout area, a resource for those individuals wishing to start a program or those who have specific fitness questions, and location for fitness classes. The Health and Fitness Annex located in the Sports Center serves as a Injury rehab center, Massage therapy center, and fitness resource area.
The Campus Recreation Department sponsors numerous special events during the school year. Some of the activities include: fun runs, bowling nights, golf tournaments beach volleyball, and many other fun-packed activities.
The Intramurals Program provides a full schedule of events for which students may sign up as teams or individuals. All recreation, leisure time or intramural events are listed in Campus Recreation brochures, on-campus activity boards, posters and the Campus Recreation web site (www.sandiego.edu/campusrecreation). Sign-ups are at the Sports Center Campus /Recreation Office or online at the Campus Recreation web site. Sports and Recreation clubs are student run organizations that compete against other colleges in league play or offer recreational activities to the campus community. The recreation department serves as the administrative and advisory organization for all sports and recreation clubs. Some of the sports clubs Include; water skiing, surfing, equestrian, rugby, soccer, water polo, baseball, running, ultimate frisbee, lacrosse, martial arts, recreation activities club, and volleyball.
