STUDENT MENTORING/NETWORKING

Take a Torero to Lunch March 3 from 12:30-2 p.m.
Join our student-alumni networking luncheon in the Degheri Alumni Center where alumni share tips and advice on choosing a major, getting an internship, planning for after graduation, and choosing a career path with students in all class years.
Majors Fair March 31 from 1:15-2:30 p.m.
Join faculty and students from your major to speak to undecided students who are thinking about what major to choose. Talk about your experiences in that major and what types of careers it might lead to.
Alumni Preceptorial Advisors August-December
A recently added component to the Preceptorial Program, alumni preceptors are matched with first-year courses from their area of study, to act as a guide for the student experience, and serve as an example of the real world application for the course subject matter. In addition, alumni can provide advice to students on topics such as study skills, adapting to life at college, keeping balance, choosing a major/career, study abroad and more. This is a more in-depth mentor opportunity for alumni; time commitment over the course of the semester will be determined jointly by the alumnus and the professor.
The Alumni Perspective August 28 from 9-10 a.m.
An orientation offered to parents during Torero Days includes a session where recent alumni will reflect on their USD experiences, sharing their stories of transition, adjustment, involvement and challenges.

CAMPUS EVENTS

USD Wine Classic July 24 from 12-6 p.m.
Volunteers at this event help to keep our costs low so that we can provide more scholarships for USD students.  Duties include registration, hospitality, assisting the wineries, silent auction, selling opportunity drawing tickets, and selling hats and t-shirts.  A great networking opportunity as well as a fun afternoon for all!
Homecoming Picnic & Tailgate Party October 1 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (two hour shift)
Our biggest event of the year needs you! Volunteers help out with registration, admission, in the beer garden, the mechanical bull, and the kids area.  All volunteers receive free admission to the event to enjoy before or after their shift.

ADMISSIONS
Congratulatory Phoning-March
Congratulations to our admitted students! Help our Admissions team by calling students from your area to congratulate them on being accepted to USD and answer their questions.  The alumni network is a main factor in admissions decisions; show them what it means to be a part of the USD community.
Summer Send Offs-July/August
The Parent Relations team welcomes our newest Torero families to our community by hosting a reception in their city during the summer before freshman arrive on campus. They provide vital information about what campus life will be like, and families love hearing from alumni about what to expect and how to make the most of being a Torero.
Prospective Student Receptions-September/October
In the fall, our Undergraduate Admissions counselors travel to locations around the country to host receptions for prospective students and their families to learn about USD.  We invite you to share your story with them so they can get to see what the USD experience is all about.
