1: What have you been up to since graduation?
Since graduating in 2005 I have been busy building my insurance and investment practice with Northwestern Mutual and enjoying all that San Diego has to offer, especially the beach. Most importantly this year I will be getting married to Jenna Collin '08, the love of my life, who also happens to be a USD alum.
2: What is your fondest memory of USD?
I have two. Cheering for USD soccer with the Hooligans Club and three-hour dinners in the cafeteria. ("The Caf" for those in the know)
3. What is your favorite place on campus, why?
The Caf. Obviously the venue has changed since I was at USD but I ate 2-3 meals a day in the cafeteria. I could always count on Oscar to serve up some tasty fries and I would spend nearly three hours a night at dinner enjoying the company of numerous friends. Very few things are more important to me than those dinners and the conversations and relationships I built over 4.5yrs. Plus, those extra 15 pounds really helped in the gym!
4. Who was your favorite USD professor or class?
I met my fiancee in a half-credit volleyball class so that one ranks pretty high. I also enjoyed my time spent in the business school. In particular, statistics with Professor Andy Allen and business strategy with Professor Standifird.
5: How have you remained involved with USD since graduation?
I continue to be involved with USD and its alumni everyday as many of them are my friends and clients. I attend various happy hours and alumni events throughout the year. Also, I regularly attend USD soccer games during the season.
6: If you could offer a current USD student advice, what would it be?
One of the best decisions I made from a future career perspective was to attend mentoring lunches with the Masters of Executive Leadership (MSEL) program. I highly recommend any current student find an older mentor, preferably a USD alum, who has a successful career in the industry they think they might be interested in. Go to lunch with them, pick their brain, and always ask for help. Some of my best clients are the very mentors from those lunches.
