USD H1N1 Flu Vaccine Clinics – Updated 11/13/09

The Student Health Center (SHC) is working closely with the county and state Departments of Public Health to provide the H1N1 Flu vaccine to students, faculty and staff. Although the nation is experiencing significant delays in vaccine production and delivery, USD has received confirmation that we will be receiving a limited number of doses on November 17, 2009. The SHC has made plans for H1N1 Flu shot clinics on the following dates while supplies last, to HIGH RISK INDIVIDUALS ONLY:

  • Tuesday November 17, 2009  11am – 2pm  Camino Courtyard
  • Wednesday November 18, 2009 4:30pm to 5:30pm at the Student Health Center (Camino 161)  Only for higher risk individuals specified below who are evening graduate students
  • November 18, 2009 11am – 2 pm Camino Courtyard

Vaccine clinic dates and locations are subject to change. Updates and announcements will be made on the USD Emergency Alert Website and will be sent by email to students, faculty and staff.

These early vaccine doses, are initially in short supply, will be targeted to higher risk individuals ONLY, (while supplies last) including:

  • Asthma
  • Neurological and neurodevelopmental conditions [including disorders of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerve, and muscle such as cerebral palsy, epilepsy (seizure disorders), stroke, intellectual disability (mental retardation), moderate to severe developmental delay, muscular dystrophy, or spinal cord injury].
  • Chronic lung disease (such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [COPD], asthma and cystic fibrosis)
  • Heart disease (such as congenital heart disease, congestive heart failure and coronary artery disease)
  • Blood disorders (such as sickle cell disease)
  • Endocrine disorders (such as diabetes mellitus)
  • Kidney disorders
  • Liver disorders
  • Metabolic disorders (such as inherited metabolic disorders and mitochondrial disorders)
  • Weakened immune system due to disease or medication (such as people with HIV or AIDS, or cancer, or those on chronic steroids)
  • People younger than 19 years of age who are receiving long-term aspirin therapy

The SHC has ordered and is hoping to receive, in the future, enough H1N1 vaccine for ALL USD students, faculty, and staff to be vaccinated on campus, free of charge, if they wish. While vaccine supplies are limited, we will be prioritizing target groups. As vaccine becomes available we will be offering to the broader campus community.

The Student Health Center would like to remind you that getting vaccinated is the best form of prevention against the H1N1 Flu.
