Message to Students
Dear USD Students,
We know this is a time of uncertainty and perhaps anxiety for many of you. For those of you who have lost your homes or been affected by the losses of others, may you find solace in knowing that your USD community continues to keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
Please be aware that the Office of the Dean of Students, Residential Life, Counseling Center and Student Health Center are here should you need assistance during this stressful period. The dean of students can facilitate connecting you with the services listed above as well as speaking with faculty about your academic concerns and needs. You may reach the dean of students at 619-260-4588 or via email at Donald.Godwin@sandiego.edu.
The university is planning for the resumption of classes on Monday, October 29. Given the complexities of university-wide calendaring, it is not feasible to designate particular dates as campus-wide make-up days. The law school is exploring such an option for their classes, and law students will be notified by Dean Cole of any such decision. Your professors are working to revise their syllabi to reflect that the semester class time is shortened by one week and will let you know when classes resume about any changes in your assignments or class schedule for the remainder of the semester. In the event, a make-up class is needed, professors will coordinate this with the administrators of their School or College. We are sensitive to your schedules and the impact of multiple make-up sessions on your jobs and other class schedules.
Several deadlines have been extended one week. The date for professors teaching undergraduates to turn in midterm grades is now Friday, November 2, and registration for January 2008 Intersession will remain open through 5:00 PM on Friday, November 2.
We look forward to welcoming back our full complement of students, faculty and staff next week. We will need the cooperation, understanding and flexibility of all to make the transition as smooth as possible. We should anticipate that special circumstances will arise, and we will work together to address these. Until you return to campus, helpful information also is available on the USD Web site.
Sincerely,
Julie H. Sullivan, Ph.D., Provost
and Vice President
Carmen M. Vazquez,
