Selection and Application

Selection Process

Each spring, up to 12 new members are chosen by a Selection Committee of current club members. Candidates are evaluated based on availability, commitment to service, leadership, reliability, and professionalism.

To be eligible, candidates must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Be a first-year student earning a 3.0 or higher GPA in the Fall semester prior to Spring selection.
  • Be a transfer student earning a 3.0 or higher GPA in their first semester at USD and will not be graduating in the Spring or the Fall immediately following initiation into the club.

We encourage you to learn more and connect with current members by visiting our booth at the Alcalá Bazaar or attending a spring informational session (optional but highly recommended).

Tips to help prepare during the Fall:

  • Focus on strengthening your GPA with a mix of engaging and challenging courses.
  • Identify a professor or staff person that knows you well/ you have a good relationship with who could provide a good letter of recommendation (required with your application)
  • Identify your “why”. Why did you choose USD? What do you hope to gain from your education here? What are your future dreams and goals and how do you plan to achieve them?
  • Get involved in clubs and organizations that reflect your interests and passions. Alcalá Club values members with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and involvement.
  • Remember: there’s no single path to membership — we want to see what makes you unique!

Application Process

All applicants must submit a printed copy of their application at the Alcalá Club Application Turn-in Event (date and location TBD). After submitting your application, you'll be invited to sign up for a group interview.

A select number of candidates will then be invited to participate in individual interviews. Final selections will be announced in early to mid-April.
