BA in Accountancy - Class of 2006 and a
Current USD Graduate Business Student

Hometime: Lemoore, CA
Major: Accountancy
Favorite Class: Cost Accounting with Dr. Pattison

Hi! I'm Jordan Freitas. This is a week in my life at USD…

Monday

7-7:30 a.m. After hitting the snooze button a couple times, I wake up and get ready for the day. I hit Aromas, which has been nationally recognized as one of the most premier college campus coffee shops. I order the iced Torero Mocha with whipped cream and a croissant.

8-8:55 a.m. Introduction to Music class. Today we watch Madonna videos and analyze how she was a breakthrough in the music video world. We also discuss how artists re-invent themselves and how that affects the culture of our society, especially with respect to fashion and women's rights.

9-10 a.m. I head back to the University Center for my A.S. Executive Board meeting. This year, I'm the Associated Students president. A.S. is the largest student organization, because all students are a part of it. We provide programs such as concerts, work on student issues with administrators, and inform the undergraduate community of what is happening on campus.

4- 6:55 p.m. I find a quiet spot on the third floor of the Legal Research Center (a.k.a. the Law Library) and start studying for my exam in Federal Tax on Tuesday.

Tuesday

9:15-10:35a.m. TAX EXAM! I am nervous, but this day has finally come. We are tested on being able to calculate adjusted gross income after taking out exemptions and standard deductions.

4-5:20 p.m. Strategic Management class. Today we talk about costs of entering industry and what it means for a company to be a first or second mover.

7 p.m. I meet up with my group for Strategic Management class, and we go to a local restaurant for dessert (which is about five minutes away from campus). On Thursday we are presenting on a local restaurant, so we thought it would be a good idea to experience it as a group and take pictures to include in our PowerPoint. Since it is located in Fashion Valley Mall, we decide to catch a movie afterwards as well.

Wednesday

7:45 a.m. I meet up with my friend Katie for smoothies and bagels in the bakery in the U.C. Katie is really involved with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, so whenever we talk she always gives me great advice and asks about how I am doing with my faith/spirituality journey. I was raised Catholic but never explored my faith thoroughly until I came to USD.

8:30 a.m. I meet Dr. Pattison, my accounting advisor. I want to make sure that I have all of the right classes lined up and also ask her about what else I should be doing to advance with regard to internships and enrolling in the master's program after graduation.

10 a.m. I head to the Career Center and have an internship interview with PricewaterhouseCoopers. It's great because it's (conveniently) right here on campus, as a lot of internship interviews are. I can't wait to hear back from them if I'll be invited back for a second interview.

11:30 a.m. I grab lunch at La Paloma, my favorite place to eat on campus. They have grilled sandwiches, pasta to order, and a specialty coffee bar. I order the grilled turkey and bell pepper sandwich on a toasted sesame kaiser roll and grab a Red Bull to go!

Noon. Mortar Board (our Senior Honor Society) meeting. The top 30 percent of the junior class is invited to apply for membership in their senior year. The Society takes those students who have exemplified leadership, scholarship, and service in their first three years at USD.

4-5:20 p.m. Strategic Management class. My group does our presentation on a local restaurant. We discuss their main suppliers, buyers, industry, and provide a SWOT. analysis. The class really liked that we had pictures from our visit on Tuesday.

6 p.m. I head over to open mic night in Aromas. Tonight my friend Claire is reciting her poem “Kisses,” and some other students will be performing in different ways.

Friday

8 a.m. I wake up, and just before leaving I check my e-mail and WebCt to see if my tax grade is online. I got a B, and am pretty satisfied with that since it was such a hard exam.

6 p.m. I head up to the Jenny Craig Pavilion for a USD men's basketball game vs. Gonzaga (our biggest rival, especially when it comes to basketball). This is going to be one of the biggest games of the season. Practically everyone is there and it is even televised!

2 a.m. We get back to campus and decide that we are really hungry, so we go for a late-night run to Santanas (down the hill from campus) and get California burritos! Mmmm…a USD favorite! California burritos are huge, and on the inside you will find french fries, carne asada, and salsa!

Saturday

10 a.m. Some friends talk about going to SeaWorld (right across the 5 freeway from our campus) or driving up to Disneyland (which is in Orange County, about an hour-and-a-half away), but I decid to stay in San Diego after such a long week!

6 p.m. I meet up with some friends in the Grille, where every Saturday a local band comes and play. I order some mozzarella sticks and soup.

Sunday

6 p.m. I head over to the student mass in Founders Chapel. It's a great community. Student mass is optional and held every Sunday night at 7 and 9.

Just another week in my life…what will yours look like at USD?
