Emerging Leaders
Emerging Leaders (“EL”) is a 2-credit introductory leadership course for first-semester freshmen at USD. It is a collaborative program with the Department of Leadership Studies and the Student Leadership and Involvement Center (“SLIC”).
Class Format
EL is taught in small inclusive environment with no more than 15 students per section. The courses are co-facilitated by a Student Affairs professional and an undergraduate student leader.
Course Description
Emerging Leaders provides an introduction to leadership concepts relevant for being a student leader at the University of San Diego. It is designed to provide exposure to different involvement opportunities at USD, allow for opportunities to engage in leadership, and provide a basic understanding of leadership concepts and models.
Learning Outcomes
Through this course students will:
• Learn about leadership concepts and theories and be able to apply these concepts and theories to their lives.
• Engage in critical thinking about leadership through assignments, activities, and discussions.
• Engage in small group learning communities to learn about leadership.
• Learn about involvement opportunities and resources at USD.
• Form significant relationships with peers and facilitators.
