Volunteer Opportunities
| The Office of Parent Relations coordinates a national parent volunteer program. In areas where there is a significant enrollment of USD students, parents may volunteer to serve as goodwill ambassadors to the university by assisting with admissions, development and regional events. The Office of Parent Relations also staffs a national Parents Association Board. The board meets twice a year and exists to assure that the volunteer efforts and goals of the parents coincide with the mission and goals of the university community. | ![]() |
Other USD Volunteer Opportunities Include:
Admissions Support
The Volunteer Admissions Network (VAN) is an exciting program that seeks
to involve alumni, parents and friends in the admissions process at
USD. Training by an admissions counselor is held at regional College
Fairs. Once the training is complete, volunteers participate at College
Fairs as representatives of USD. At these fairs, VAN members speak with
potential USD students and parents, and answer any general questions
they may have.
BusinessLink
USD
Parents can help USD by encouraging the companies for which they work
to join and support BusinessLink USD. A membership-based corporate affiliation
program, BusinessLink USD is composed of businesses and organizations
that have united with the University of San Diego to form mutually beneficial
partnerships.
Strategic Partnerships
Strategic partnerships with the University of San Diego result in mutual
benefits for our partners as well as the institution. Partners provide
the USD campus with goods, services and financial support currently
valued at more than $4 million. Partnerships support everything from
scholarships and student activities to transportation discounts and
wireless satellite connections
Development Support
Tuition alone does not cover the cost of a USD education, therefore
the university depends on contributions from parents, alumni and community
friends to make up the difference. In addition to contributing to the
annual fund, parents can support the development effort by identifying
potential donors in their areas and notifying the parent relations office.
They can also assist in making thank you calls to current donors. The
final area of development support is heightening parent awareness of
matching gift programs through their business. Matching gifts can double
or triple the amount of a gift to the university. All gifts are greatly
appreciated.
Regional Events Support
In the San Diego area, parents serve as hosts and information resources
during Move-In Day, Family Weekend, College Visiting Day, the Baccalaureate
Dinner, the Commencement Reception and the summer Welcome Reception.
Throughout the United States, parents act as goodwill ambassadors in
their areas by telephoning first-year USD parents to offer assistance
and advice and encourage their attendance at a Welcome Reception or
Family Weekend. Volunteers also assist in parent board recruitment by
identifying parent board prospects and forwarding their names to the
parent relations office.
