Torero Days Parent Orientation

New students will move into campus housing
on August 29, 2009!
The 2009 Move In Day for freshman and transfer students is Saturday, August 29. The Office of Parent Relations and parent volunteers partner with Student Affairs and the Torero Days orientation program to ease the transition to campus for new students and their parents. Torero Days Parent Orientation will be Saturday, August 29 and during the morning of Sunday, August 30. Informational sessions and workshops will be provided specifically for parents and families of new USD students. The parent portion of the weekend will conclude mid-day on Sunday with a special family liturgy, scheduled to end around noon. Please plan to join us!

New Student and Family BBQ (August 29, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.) - Advance purchase of tickets has closed. Tickets will be available in person at the Hahn University Center ticket office from August 24-29. Adult tickets are priced at $25.00, and Children (age 5-10) are priced at $15.00. Tickets are not required for new students. Pre-purchased tickets will be included in the student's check in materials on Saturday, August 29; tickets will not be mailed in advance.

Students who live off-campus have the opportunity to stay in the residence halls for a portion of the Torero Days schedule, and this must be arranged in advance. Contact the Torero Days office at (619) 260-4590 for more information.

USD Women’s Soccer vs. UCLA
Cheer on the Toreros! Residence Halls do not open to students until Aug. 29,
but if you are in San Diego, come out to the game. Tickets are available at

Registration is not required to attend the Parent Orientation events, but tickets

New Student Residents Move In
Times vary according to housing area; please refer to housing assignment
information and the Torero Days mailing sent in June. In each housing area, visit the Parent Information Tables to pick up your informational Parent Orientation folder and meet parents and students who can answer your questions.

Parent Seminars 10–10:45 a.m. The First year Experience for Students Hahn University Center, Forum A/B Learn about the programs new freshmen will encounter during their first year and get an overview of academics and academic support at USD. Participants include James Gump, PhD, professor of history and associate dean for advising and curriculum; Merrick Marino, assistant dean and director of the Center for Student Success; Dayanne Izmirian, PhD, assistant dean for residential life; and Marie Minnick, assistant dean of students and director of Torero Days Orientation. Taking Care of Business Manchester Executive Conference Center, Auditorium Learn how to assist your student with USD financial responsibilities, including tuition payment deadlines, billing statements and activity, granting parents online access and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. Also, a representative from the Office of Financial Aid will discuss common parent questions, including: How does financial aid get applied to my student’s bill? How does financial aid continue from year to year? The Student Id is Key Maher Hall, Solomon Lecture Hall The Torero ID Card is one of the most important tools a student will have. It allows access to meals, residence halls, banking, retail and services on and off campus. Learn how to get the most out of the Torero Card, how the Meal Plan can work best for you, and about all of the discounts and savings available for you. The university’s Wellness team will present information about adjustment to
college, typical transitions issues, how families can best support their student,
and provide campus resources and services available to students.

4:30–6:30 p.m. New Student and Family Barbecue Join your daughter or son and other USD families for a barbecue dinner. To purchase advanced sale discounted tickets, go to ww.sandiego.edu/parents between July 15 and Aug. 14. All guests (parents, siblings, etc.) will need to purchase tickets. Tickets are not required for new students as it is the first meal of Torero Days. Their Torero Days name tag serves as their ticket. Refer to the enclosed flier for additional details and instructions for purchasing tickets. Advance tickets must be purchased by Aug. 14. Barbecue Details: All residents of Maher Hall, Camino Hall, Founders Hall and the University Terrace Apartments will be served at the Plaza de San Diego (in front of Maher Hall). All residents of Missions A, Missions B, San Antonio de Padua, Alcalá Vista Apartments and Manchester Village, as well as all commuter students (including those staying on campus during Torero Days), will be served at Eagan Plaza (in front of the Jenny Craig Pavilion). If you decide to eat off campus, please be aware that the next program your son or daughter is expected to attend for Torero Days begins at 7 p.m. |

community and features a blessing for students. Persons of all denominations
are welcome and encouraged to attend.
