Parents and Families at USD

Summer Send Offs

Going to college can entail many new challenges for students and their parents.
Regional receptions with other incoming freshmen and transfer students and their
parents, as well as current USD students and their parents, can help facilitate this
transition. Hosted during the summer months by USD families, these mixers provide
an excellent opportunity for new and returning students to meet each other and ask
questions about the college experience. USD administrators, Parent Relations staff and USD alumni will also be there to welcome new families. The Summer Send Offs for San Diego families will be held at USD.

Campus Family Events

Torero Days Parent Orientation

Parents of incoming freshmen and transfer students are traditionally welcomed into
the campus community at the start of Torero Days with the new student Move In Day. Move In Day offers new residents and their parents a chance to locate and move into their assigned rooms within the university’s residence halls. In addition, a variety of presentations will be planned for parents, including information on campus resources and what to expect as a parent of a USD student. Members of the Parents Association Board will be present to serve as informational resources for the new parents. Parents are invited to attend dinner on
Saturday night with their students and return to campus on Sunday morning to attend
a closing Mass before students begin the full Torero Days schedule. View the Torero Days Parent Orientation schedule at www.sandiego.edu/parents and watch for additional details
during the summer.

Admissions Support

The Volunteer Admissions Network (VAN) is an exciting and growing program
that seeks to involve alumni and parents in the admissions process at USD. Once
volunteers are trained, they have many opportunities to participate in various
admissions events throughout the country. Volunteers participate in events such as
college fairs, receptions, admission interviews, congratulatory phoning and Summer
Send Offs. As representatives of USD, volunteers are often asked to speak with
potential USD students and parents about their experience and help answer any
general questions they may have about the university. These events happen during
both the spring and the fall, and any involvement is greatly appreciated. Please contact
the Office of Undergraduate Admissions for more information at (619) 260-4506.

Parents Association Board

Your involvement in your son’s or daughter’s education at the University of San
Diego will last until graduation and beyond. By becoming involved in the Parents
Association, or through volunteer opportunities that are available, especially in regions
of significant USD student enrollment, your experience with the university becomes
further enhanced.

The USD Parents Association consists of all parents of USD students. There are no membership dues. Parents become members simply by having a student enrolled at USD.
The Parents Association Board works to integrate parents into the university community by mobilizing them to volunteer their talents and abilities, to contribute financially and to join other parents, students and university personnel in helping to create an educational environment consistent with the mission of the university. If you are interested in more information about becoming an elected member of the Parents Association Board, please contact the Office of Parent Relations at (619) 260-4808.
