Integrated Learning: Highlights, 2007-08

The list of highlights will be updated during the academic year.
  • First Year Experience
    • Redefined and coordinated first-year experience responsibilities for key student leadership positions: Preceptorial Assistants, FYE Resident Assistants, and Torero Days Squad Leaders.
      • Strengthened processes to identify, interview, and select student leaders.
      • Developed a training program for Preceptorial Assistants with the Center for Educational Excellence and offered two fall training sessions.
      • Instituted "Project Blue," a series of individual meetings between new students and FYE Resident Assistants.
    • Developed processes for evaluating the effectiveness of the preceptorial program.
    • Reorganized "FYE Workshops" as "FRESH@USD" (Finding Resources, Enhancing Success and Health) and set up online registration for programs.
  • Second Year Experience
    • In response to committee's charge, developed a series of recommendations for programs targeted to second-year students.
      • Improve advising, particularly for undeclared and transfer students.
      • Connect with students to welcome them back for a second year by sending them a letter during the summer and hosting a welcome-back barbeque and "Torero Day" when they return.
      • Feature programs specifically for second-year students, including a hunger banquet, a majors fair, and an interships fair.
    • Presented recommendations to the Board of Trustees: the Student Affairs Committee, the Academic Affairs Committee, and the full Board.
