Sacramental Preparation, called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), enables an individual to become a full member of the Catholic Church.
This program begins in late September and ends in May. It is designed for those desiring Baptism as well as for Christians from other denominations who wish to become members of the Catholic Church. In addition, the RCIA, the RCIA is open to baptized Catholic who have not been educated in their Faith and desire to prepare for the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. The process requires commitment to meet every Sunday from 5-7 p.m. in the Faculty Staff Lounge just outside Founders Chapel. The group then attends the 7 p.m. Mass. The program is designed to not only learn more about the Catholic faith, but it is also a time to develop a deeper relationship with God. There are several retreat and service projects throughout the year as well as a chance for one on one discernment meetings with the RCIA director. Each Candidate / Catechumen has a sponsor who guides and nourishes them throughout the course culminating in the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation during the Easter season in front of the entire USD Catholic community.

To learn and share our faith, to grow deeper in understanding and to make connections that will last a lifetime are all part of the RCIA process. It is a wonderful time, especially at USD to make a commitment to the Catholic faith with fellow students and alumni. If you would like more information about the sessions and format, please contact Danny O'Regan at (619) 260-7770 or by email at dannyo@sandiego.edu for more information.
