Leadership Academy
The human resources department is currently constructing a Leadership Academy to include a number of programs to promote leadership and supervisory skills for university employees. The first program to be implemented is the Supervisor Essentials program, targeting new supervisors, experienced supervisors looking for information on how they can enhance their skills, and high potential employees who may be ready for leadership positions in the next few years. Additional programs within the Leadership Academy will be developed as we move forward and announced in the future.
Supervisor Essentials Program
Applications being accepted for the 2007-08 Program!
The Supervisor Essentials program focuses on the skills every supervisor should master to ensure they are effectively leading their team of employees. This program meets once a month through the academic year in a formal session to introduce relevant concepts and strategies for supervisors. The group also meets one time each month for lunch to network and discuss triumphs and challenges. This is meant to build relationships with colleagues, encourage interdepartmental communication, and support individuals as they integrate the concepts of the program into their jobs.
In addition to these meetings, members of this group participate in an online course aligned with program concepts. This online course consists of discussion boards and assignments to ensure that the skills presented are being utilized in the participant’s day to day work.
