Serra Hall

Serra Hall began as the arts and sciences building for the San Diego College for Men. It remains today a classroom and faculty office building for the following departments: Academic Computing; Biology; Marine Sciences; Undergraduate Admissions; Counseling Center; Graduate Career Programs; Mathematics and Computer Science; and Political Science. These departments are spread over three floors and 77,446 gross square feet. The third floor is one-third the square footage of the second floor and pulls back significantly from the vertical plain of the latter. The second floor does the same with the first floor although not as significantly. The overall effect however is one of great spatial flow which when combined with the plateresque detailing makes Serra Hall an excellent example of Spanish Renaissance Revival.
