Bert Degheri Alumni Center

Bert Degheri Alumni Center
The Bert Degheri Alumni Center is a three-story, 28,000 gross square foot structure that provides on campus facilities for alumni programs, information and social functions. It houses the departments of University Relations and Development.

The building is located at the East entrance of the campus, the site of Harmon Hall which was torn down to make way for the Center. The site is important as it provides visitors their first impression of Campus architectural esthetics.

The architecture is neither academic nor ecclesiastical. It is instead more residential in scale and size which is appropriate for its usage and function. The building therefor is a strong articulation of 16th Century Spanish Renaissance representative of Spanish Villas of that time period.

Typical of those structures this building is designed around a large, functional interior courtyard. The courtyard is a primary design feature and is given further definition by 360 degrees of surrounding exterior colonnades. The exterior elevations of the building are representative of the plateresque style, materials and detailing already in place on the campus. While a three-story structure, the third story is stepped back from the first two levels to establish a more residential scale as well as to provide a more horizontal delineation typical of Spanish Renaissance.
