In November 1999, the Division of Finance and Administration developed a set of guiding principles of duty and virtue which describe how we shall conduct ourselves as representatives of the university and set the basis for how our performance will be evaluated, as members of a Catholic community dedicated to the practice of business. The Code, a copy of which is attached, refers to the adherence to laws, rules and policies and the moral principles of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness and social awareness.
In December 2003, the Division of Finance and Administration announced that it would present an annual award to the employee that best exemplifies the values set forth by the Code of Conduct. The first to be recognized was Jeff Hardick of Facilities Management for calendar year 2004, followed by Mercedes Bennett of Student Financial Services for 2005 and Brian Fogarty of Athletics for 2006.
It is now time to call for prospective nominees for the 2007 Code of Conduct Award. Eligible recipients are benefit based employees with a minimum of at least one year of service in one of the following departments: Budget and Treasury, Facilities Management, Procurement Services, Controller (Accounting and Student Financial Services), Auxiliary Services (Bookstore, Campus Card, and Dining Services), Print Shop and Mail Center), Human Resources, Public Safety, and Athletics.
Nominations will be accepted thru October 19, 2007. It is suggested that nominations include the reason why nominees should be considered for the Code of Conduct Award as well as “real life” examples from the workplace demonstrating one or more of the Code of Conduct values.
The Code of Conduct Award Selection Committee, who is charged with reviewing the nominations and making a recommendation for award. The committee may contact other individuals such as supervisors and/or co-workers to gather more information prior to making their recommendation.
The recipient of the fourth award will be announced in November 2007. Their name will be placed on the perpetual Code of Conduct Award to be housed in the recipient’s department throughout the calendar year following the conferral.
