The Office of the Controller reports directly to the Vice President for Finance and Administration. It is responsible for all financial record keeping and monitoring of University accounts in accordance with the Board approved budget to ensure sound fiscal control. The Controller directs and manages the Controller’s Office functions, including the Offices of Accounting, Payroll and Student Financial Services. Mission Statement of the Accounting Office
The primary mission of the Accounting Office is to serve our customers who include students,
faculty, administrators, donors, grant agencies and the board of trustees. Our primary product is timely and accurate financial information. The Accounting Office strives to provide high-quality financial documentation, consultation and support through the adherence to policies and procedures, technical innovation and team collaboration. The Accounting Office is comprised of general
accounting and external funds accounting, as described below:
General Accounting
General Accounting is responsible for maintaining the university's general ledger,
and recording and reporting all university financial transactions. General accounting
manages the month-end and year-end accounting close functions, and provides account analysis
and financial consultation to the campus at large.
External Funds Accounting
External funds accounting is responsible for the post-award financial reporting of private and government grants and contracts. This accounting division also prepares budget appropriations, indirect cost charges and billings for restricted funds, and works in conjunction with Budget & Treasury to track the university's numerous endowment gifts.
