Leadership Academy Programs

To best meet the changing needs of our campus community, the Department of Human Resources has re-organized our HR Leadership Academy offerings to include a more flexible and individualized program format. We are currently offering two different professional development tracks to best meet the needs of both current and aspiring supervisors and managers.

The goal of Developing Great Managers is to provide supervisors and managers with the necessary tools and resources to maximize the strengths in their team. All programs and projects are intentionally linked to the University of San Diego’s mission, values and goals.

By completing this program, managers will be able to:

  • Increase employee engagement and align department goals with USD’s mission, values and strategic goals
  • Utilize best practices in hiring procedures, particularly in the area of diversity and inclusion
  • Constructively address performance issues and concerns by providing timely, accurate feedback and professional development for their staff
  • Demonstrate a greater understanding of USD’s policies, procedures and resources
  • Effectively manage and lead their team through change

Who will benefit:  This program incorporates valuable information based on USD’s unique environment and culture.  All supervisors (regardless of experience level) will benefit from this program as well as contribute valuable perspective for colleagues.

Participants may schedule components to fit within their schedule.  Upon completion of all program components, a certificate of achievement will be awarded to the individual and a copy will be placed in their personnel file.  All courses must be completed within two years.

Equivalency:  Components of this program can be customized based on the level of an individual’s experience.  For more information about course equivalency, please contact a member of our Training and Development team at usdtraining@sandiego.edu.

The goal of Step up Skills for Aspiring Supervisors is to provide high potential employees with the necessary tools and resources to prepare them for supervisory and management responsibilities.
