Flu/H1N1 Information

This page serves as a reminder of the basic flu related procedures in the event you become ill this flu season.

It is important for all faculty, staff, and students to take the following flu precautions:

  • Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze
  • Throw used tissues in the trash
  • Do not share food, drink, or utensils
  • Wash your hands with soap and water frequently—particularly after you sneeze—or use an alcohol based hand gel
  • Faculty, staff and students who are sick should stay home for at least 24-hours after they no longer have a fever, or signs of a fever, without the use of fever-reducing medicines

Staff members who are concerned about absences can contact the Department of Human Resources at extension 4594.

For more information about how USD is managing the current influenza situation, please visit the Special Alert website at:  http://www.sandiego.edu/alert/influenza/.

In order to effectively track campus exposure rates, we are asking supervisors to follow the following procedures:

If a staff employee is out sick with flu-like symptoms, please note this on their Kronos timecard by “Adding a Comment” to the Amount column displaying the number of sick hours they are using.  A special comment has been created for this purpose that says, “Flu”.  If you need assistance with this process, please view the Tracking Flue Job Aid or contact Payroll at extension 4818.  This information will only be used for statistical purposes as a protocol established for the Center for Disease Control.  No names or personal information will be given.

If an administrator is out sick with flu-like symptoms, please inform your division’s budget manager so that they can report how many administrators have been out and for how long.  This information will only be used for statistical purposes as a protocol established for the Center for Disease Control. No names or personal information will be given.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Department of Human Resources at extension 4594 or via email at humanresources@sandiego.edu.
