The floating holiday must be used by June 30th of each fiscal year. Scheduling the floating holiday, either by a department as a whole, or by an individual employee, is at the discretion of the department head. Departments will track and report the usage of the floating holiday for employees and, if applicable, assure it is properly reported on the employee’s time card. If a department does not close on an approved day, then affected employees may individually schedule the use of the floating holiday with prior approval of the employee’s supervisor.
Should the Department Head schedule department use of the floating holiday in conjunction with Christmas, note how it is best applied:
For December 2009, the holiday would be applied to Monday, December 28th, to create a 5 day week-end.
