Maher Hall
Built in 1954Designed by Edgar V. Ulrilch

One of the fine examples of the Spanish Renaissance Revival, Maher Hall started as a seminary for the San Diego Diocese. The building structure of 110,000 gross square feet rises four stories over a partial basement which daylights on the northern elevation. The effective five stories of elevation allow the structure to take full advantage not only of plateresque detail, but also of arched colonnades and the juxtaposition of vertical planes, which produces a strong three-dimensional quality. The top three stories are dormitories. The bottom two house the departments of Anthropology, Banquets and Catering, Graduate Admissions, Human resources, Information Systems, Institutional Design, Media Services, Public Relations, Sponsored Programs, Theological and Religious Studies, the Solomon Lecture Hall and of course, Aromas.
