1. Once I get my new Torero ID Card, will my old card still work?

    • Card holders should receive/pick-up their new Torero Card asap..
    • As of 2/9/09, all new cards are fully functional. Old cards are now defunct and should be recycled. You may then use your new card for all the things you did before (Meal Plan, CampusCash, copies, library, door access etc.)
    • A new function of the card is you may use it as a bank and ATM card all in one. Your ID may function as a campus ATM card and off-campus as a debit and ATM card via your US Bank account.
    • If you do not have a U.S. Bank account you may sign up for one today in the new full-service branch located in UC-125. If you do have a current U.S. Bank account you can link it to your card, just stop by the campus branch.

gift card2. Will my Gift Cards still work?

All USD gift cards issued prior to 2/9/09 will no longer function. If you have a gift card with a balance on it you may stop by Campus Card and convert it to CampusCash, or you may trade it in for a new gift card at no expense. Newly designed gift cards are also now available for purchase.

3. Why are we re-carding?

Recarding was neccesary due to improvements in the format of the USD ID. The new Torero Card replaces all existing ID cards, provides the capability of new services and feature a brand new design. The Torero Card will have the same functions as the old cards (including: Meal Plans, CampusCash, time clocks, library system and Onity door locks).

4. What are the benefits of the new card?

As previously announced, USD has recently entered into a partnership with U.S. Bank.  As part of the re-carding benefits, the Torero Card will be capable of serving as a banking card that can be used as an ATM card on campus and a debit/ATM card off campus.  Please visit the U.S. Bank branch in UC 125 for details about linking your current account, or opening a new U.S. Bank account.

5. Is my ID number changing?

As part of the recent Banner implementation, every student, faculty, and staff member was assigned a 9 digit ID. For most people, their Banner ID will be the seven digit ID they are accustomed to, with an additional two leading zeroes.  For the few people who have had multiple IDs (who, for example, may have transitioned from undergraduate to graduate and, in some cases, to employee status), IT is working to consolidate their various ID numbers into a single ID.  Issuing the new Torero Card will be the final step in the transition to a single, nine-digit ID.

6. Is there a fee to get the new card?

There is no fee for your new Torero ID card. Once you receive your initial new card, if you lose it, a replacement card will cost $18.

7. Will I need a new photo?

The new cards will be produced in bulk using existing photographs on file, and for most will not require you to take a new photo. A few people will need to provide updated photos for technical reasons. To do so visit the Campus Card office UC-127.

8. When are the new cards available?

Distribution of the pre-printed new cards is well underway and new cards are now available.

9. How will I receive my card?

Note: remaining cards that were not picked up during the following timeframes are now available from Campus Card Services.

- All residents received their cards from the residence life/ housing department upon their return to campus in January '09.

- Law School students and Law staff had the opportunity to pick up their cards the first week in February (2/2-6) from the Student Affairs office (second floor of Warren Hall).

- Faculty cards were mailed to home addresses the week of 1/20.

- Commuter students and staff were able to pick their cards up as of 2/2 in UC-119.

- Kronos timeclock users (non-residents) received their cards prior to 2/9 from their departmental supervisor.

10. When will my new card be activated?

All cards are now active. Your old ID card is inactive and you should not use it, please recycle (blue bin).

11. What are the hours of the Campus Card office and the UC-119 new card distribution center?

Campus Card is normally open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with extended hours on Wednesday until 6 p.m. Please see our home page for holiday and intersession hours. Distribution will occur in UC 119 through 2/10, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. As of 2/11, all ID cards will be available in UC 127.

12. What if I have more questions?

Please call Campus Card at ext. 5999 or (619) 260-5999, or stop by their office in UC-127.

13. Why is it called the 'Torero' card?

While researching the design of the new ID card, the re-carding team discovered that many universities have ID cards that feature their mascots. This year, on both the academic front and the athletic front, the University of San Diego has had much to be proud of. So it was very intentional that we chose to feature the mascot on the new ID card as a way to evoke, celebrate and spread a feeling of spirit, pride and excitement. This approach also supports the university's branding initiative to help increase USD's level of national prominence. That initiative isn't just about promoting our school logo, or our school colors, it's about promoting school spirit and what it means to be a Torero. A Torero signifies courage, honor and fidelity. Each one of us is a Torero. Each one of us whether we're faculty, staff or students here at Alcalá Park, or alumni from across the nation or around the world is proud to be part of the University of San Diego. So carry your Torero Card with pride!

Torero Card - Announcement #1   10/24/08

We are pleased to announce this January 2009 USD will be issuing new ID cards to all students, faculty and staff. The new Torero Card will replace your existing ID card, provide the capability of new services and feature a brand new design. Cards will be issued throughout January, and once they have all been distributed, will be activated the first week of February 2009.

USD has recently completed the implementation of our new student system, Banner. As a result of this effort we have been able to provide all constituents with a single Banner ID as the "key" to all of your university services and business needs. For most people, their Banner ID will be the seven digit ID they are accustomed to, with an additional two leading zeroes. For the few people who have had multiple ID's, (who, for example, may have transitioned from undergraduate to graduate, and in some cases, to employee status) IT is working to consolidate their various ID numbers into a single ID. Issuing the new Torero Card will be the final step in the transition to a single, nine digit ID.

Important details to know:
- The new cards will be produced in bulk using existing photographs on file, and for most will not require you to take a new photo. A few people will need to provide updated photos for technical reasons.
- Beginning in November, patrons will have the opportunity to review their existing ID photo online. Additional details regarding this process will be sent next week.
- Distribution of the cards will begin by early January 2009.
- Once all cards have been distributed they will be activated, and the old cards will be collected. This is scheduled to happen in early February 2009.
- Your full nine digit ID number will be printed on the face of the card. For most, this will be your existing ID number pre-pended with two leading zeroes.
- Once activated, the various card functions will work the same as before (Meal Plans, CampusCash, time clocks, library system and Onity door locks).
- As previously announced, USD has recently entered into a partnership with U.S. Bank. As part of the re-carding benefits, the Torero Card will be capable of serving as a banking ATM card. Please visit the U.S. Bank branch in the University Center, room 125, for details about opening a U.S. Bank account.
