Clinical Assistant Professor
Email: sbonnell@sandiego.edu
Susan Bonnell
RN for 30 years, graduated from Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon in 1975. Nursing background includes 15 years in an emergency department, with 7 of those years in a pediatric ED. Spent time with adults on med-surg, orthopedics, telemetry and post-partum; in-patient hospital pediatric settings have included Neonatal Intensive Care and pediatric med-surg.

Earned Bachelor’s Degree in 2001, followed by Nursing Master’s in 2002 from the University of San Diego upon completion of the BSN-MSN tract. My graduate work was in the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program. Became a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in 2002 through the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board, and is active in the current Certification Maintenance Program. Joined faculty of USD 2003. Special interests include empowerment of families who have special needs, especially low income and poverty, and lives which have been directly impacted by substance abuse, domestic violence, and homelessness. Personal goals include achieving fluency in Spanish to expand my ability to provide services to children and families in the San Diego community. I especially enjoy educating and preparing families concerning the behavior and developmental issues that come with raising children in our complex society.

Current clinical practice is at Imperial Beach Community Clinic and South Bay Union School District.

Teaching responsibilities include Health Promotion of Behavior and Development Practicum and Seminar, and Seminar for Pediatric Management, and site visits for students doing their clinical rotations.
